Sneak Peek: Cause-Driven Showrooms

Brief: Drive donations and awareness for Syrian refugees.

Execution: IKEA turned its Norwegian flagship into a replica of a Syrian warzone home. “25m2 Syria” mimicked the exact layout and materials of a real family’s apartment, complete with laminated IKEA tags explaining how to help. It was uncomfortable, humanising, and effective. Other brands used showrooming to drive empathy to:

  • MSF disguised a hospital room as an IKEA showroom to raise medical funds.
  • Covenant House launched a fictional fashion brand to expose sex trafficking.
  • SOS Villages showcased “workwear for kids” to confront child labour—priced by annual wage.

Each used showrooming to provoke emotion, challenge comfort, and mobilise action.
